One of the daughters of President Muhmmadu Buhari, Hanan, was on Friday given out in marriage to Mohammed Turad Sha’aban, in a private ceremony at the Aso Villa, Abuja.
The ceremony, which was reportedly strictly on invitation, was conducted in the court yard of the Villa, away from the eye of the media.
The mother of the bride, First Lady Aisha Buhari, gave clues of the event Friday afternoon when she posted three pictures of what looked like pre-wedding activities of the couple on her Instagram page with the inscription ‘#HamadForever Alhamdulilah’.
The groom, Mohammed Turad, is the son of a former lawmaker, Hon Sani Sha’aban and a Special Adviser to the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fasola.

Abba Ahmad, who planned suicide over his inability to marry President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter, Hanan, has dropped the idea following after a counselling session with the Police.
 Ahmad, 22, a businessman and 400-year Accounting student of the North West University, Kano now Yusuf Maitama Sule University, has been sending marriage proposals to Hanan on Facebook and Instagram.
Abba, whose father died in 2013, told The Nation he had been thrilled by Hanan’s beauty and educational qualifications.
Twenty-two-year-old Hanan is a graduate of Photography from Ravensbourne University, England.
“I am in love with her (Hanan Buhari) because of her beautiful face, her level of education and integrity of her father (Buhari).
“I tried informing her but I don’t know whether the
messages got to her,” Ahmad said.
He posted he would commit suicide if Hanan wedded another man on Friday.
When The Nation asked why he would die because of a woman, he said: “I just said it.”
The President’s wife, Aisha Buhari, had shared photos of her daughter’s wedding on Friday at the Presidential Villa on Instagram.
The pre-wedding event of Hanan and Turad Sha’aban took place on Thursday September 3.
Muhammed Turad is a Special Adviser to Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola.
He is the son of a former lawmaker, Mahmud Sani
Sha’aban, who represented Zaria in the House of
Representatives from 2003 to 2007.
Kano police spokesman, Abdullahi Haruna, said the police in Kano, at the prompting of Frank Mba, invited Ahmad to the Command Headquarters where he was persuaded not to commit suicide.
Police Commissioner Habu Sani and a Police Imam also counselled him.
Police spokesman Frank Mba spoke with Ahmad on
telephone for 6 minutes, 6 seconds, convincing him not to commit suicide even if he did not marry the President’s daughter.
He was told he could marry another beautiful woman and reminded his religion preaches against suicide.
After dropping his suicidal plans, Ahmad, who thanked the Police, expressed desire to join the Force because of the “friendly manner” the Police treated his case.
Police Commissioner Sani advised him to apply for next police recruitment.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo have clashed over alleged plots to rig the September 19 Governorship poll.
Edo PDP Publicity Secretary, Chris Nehikhare, at a news
conference in Benin, alleged the immediate National
Chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has
colluded with a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Dr Mustapha Leeky, to rig the crucial poll.
He said: “Dr. Leeky, working with Oshiomhole and Ize-Iyamu, is disrupting the process for engagement of the various ad hoc staff to be used by INEC for the September 19 election.
“The time-honoured tradition, which mandates all political parties involved in the electioneering process to submit names of persons to be used as ad hoc staff, is being abused by Dr. Leeky and his collaborators in the APC.
“Dr. Leeky has skewed the process to ensure it favours one party, whereby the final list released for training of the ad hoc staff has a ratio of 10:1 between the APC and all other political parties.
“It is unfortunate the APC has lost the hope of getting elected through the ballot and the members are working with Dr. Leeky and others in INEC to subvert the will of Edo people.”
PDP in Edo also stated that while it had confidence in the INEC as an institution, it was calling on the electoral umpire to rein in Leeky to have an election that would uphold the will of the people.
It urged the leadership of INEC to review the process of selecting ad hoc staff, demanding Leeky should excuse himself from the process.
But Edo APC Publicity Secretary Chris Azebamwan
described the allegations as phantom and imaginary.
He said: “We can tell you authoritatively that the APC has not and cannot delve into the affairs of a statutory body (INEC) recognised by the electoral law to conduct elections in this country.
“This is another ploy by PDP and its governorship candidate Governor Godwin Obaseki to distract Edo residents and other Nigerians from the matter at hand.
“Obaseki is the outgoing governor of Edo State. He should be preparing his handover notes, instead of misleading the people, because he is aware of his obvious imminent defeat.
So, there is no truth in the frivolous allegations.”
When contacted, Leeky told The Nation on phone the allegations were false.
He said the issues raised must be in the dream of
whosoever imagined them.
Oshiomhole, reacting through his media aide, Victor
Oshioke, described the allegations as irresponsible, frivolous and baseless.
He said: “Comrade Oshiomhole is busy selling the SIMPLE agenda manifesto of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu to Edo people and he has no time to spend reacting to irresponsible, frivolous and baseless daily allegations coming from the PDP.
“It is now obvious to objective observers that PDP has nothing to tell Edo people about Obaseki’s wasted four years as governor.
“That is why Edo PDP members decided to relocate their campaigns to the party’s secretariat where the Publicity Secretary reels out daily press statements on imagined scenarios.
“PDP is known for rigging. So, members of the party (PDP) know all the ways they rigged previous elections.
“The only way Comrade Oshiomhole knows to win the crucial election is through campaigns, based on what the candidate will do, if he is elected. This is exactly what APC leaders are doing right now, across Edo State.
“As we speak, Pastor Ize-Iyamu; his running mate, Mallam Gani Audu; Comrade Oshiomhole and all APC stakeholders in Edo State are in Edo Central Senatorial District campaigning. Does that look like people planning to rig the poll?”
Oshiomhole also stated the election would be decided by Edo residents with their votes, not by worthless press statements and news conferences where baseless allegations are levelled against eminent politicians.

No fewer than five persons have lost their lives
to flood occasioned by torrential rainfalls in
some communities in Warji Local Government
area of Bauchi State .
Governor Bala Mohammed , who made this
known in one of the affected communities in
Dagu village yesterday , said the government
was seriously disturbed by the loss of lives and
property to the disaster . About 300 households,
2 , 000 animals, and numerous farmlands were
also affected by the flood .
He warned residents of the affected
communities to desist from erecting structures
on waterways and drains to avoid being
submerged by flood and consequent loss of
lives .
Mohammed said the government had provided
emergency relief materials , including 100 bags
each of maize and millet as well as clothing
materials and mats . He added : “ We would
provide additional relief after proper
assessment of the extent of damage. ’’
He said his administration would soon begin
the construction of spacious waterways and
culverts in the affected communities to prevent
the re - occurrence of the incident .
Director - General of the state Environmental
Protection Agency , (BASEPA) , Mr Lurwanu
Kabir , said the government had directed the
agency to tour the 21 local government areas to
assess the possible threats to the environments .
“ The tour will enable us to take proactive
measures against such eventualities , ” he said .

• Woman kills lover for denying her money
for upkeep.


41 - year - Old Ogbonna Nwankwo has been
arrested by operatives of the Anambra State
Police Command for allegedly attempting to kill
a woman , Bella Joseph , aged 29 , and cutting off
her breast yesterday .
Disclosing this to newsmen , spokesman of the
command , Haruna Mohammed , said Ogbonna
took Bella to Dollar Inn Motel in Ihite , Orumba
South Local Government area , for lodging .
He said while they lodged in their hotel room ,
the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab Bella
and was attempting to cut off her right side
breast when her cry for help was heard by the
motel manager , who came to her rescue. The
suspect allegedly thought Bella was dead .
Haruna said police operatives attached to
Umunze division were invited and they rushed
the victim to a specialist hospital in Nnewi ,
where she is being treated. He added that the
suspect , who was seriously manhandled by a
mob and beaten to stupor , was arrested by the
police and taken to the hospital for treatment
under police guard, while a blood - stained knife
was recovered at the scene as an exhibit.
MEANWHILE , a 25 - year - old lady, Oyinye
Chime , has been arrested for allegedly stabbing
her boyfriend to death for refusing to provide
her with some money for the upkeep of her
baby .
The deceased , Eleyi Azubuike , a resident of
Ochiagha Street , Nkpor in Idemili North Local
Government Area of Anambra, was said to
have impregnated the suspect and wanted an
abortion but she declined .
It was gathered that the suspect was angered
by the deceased ’ s refusal to oblige to her
demand, leading to her stabbing him to death
during an altercation .
The police spokesperson , Mohammed ,
confirmed the incident , saying the body had
been deposited at the hospital mortuary for
autopsy . He said the case was under
investigation.
“ On September 2 at about 10 :10 p . m . , there was
a report of the alleged murder of one Eleyi
Azubuike ‘ m ’ aged 29 of Ochiagha street , Nkpor
in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State , by his
girlfriend, one Oyinye Chime ‘ f’ aged 25 , of
same Ochiagha street , Nkpor inside his room.
“ Following the report, detectives attached to
Ogidi Division , led by the DPO , CSP Ekuri
Remigius , visited the scene and rushed the
victim, who was found in a pool of his blood , to
Iyi Enu Mission Hospital , Ogidi, for medical
attention where he was certified dead by the
medical doctor on arrival .
“ A careful observation on the deceased body
revealed stab wound on his chest while a
blood - stained kitchen knife was also recovered
as an exhibit at the scene .
“ Preliminary investigation revealed that the
deceased allegedly impregnated the suspect
and wanted an abortion which she declined
and demanded some money for her upkeep,
which the deceased also refused to oblige ,
which eventually led to a scuffle that resulted
to the deceased being stabbed to death . ”

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over the sum of N147.7 million recovered from alleged treasury looters and contractors to the Kwara state government.
It said that the sum of N138 million was recovered from the contractors who handled projects from Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) while nine million naira was recovered from the officials of the state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
The commission had recently quizzed the officials of SUBEB including its suspended Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Bayo Onimago for allegedly inserted some fictitious names into the board’s payroll.
Speaking during the hand over, Zonal Head of the EFCC, Mr Kazeem Oseni urged the state government to use the money for the betterment of the people.
“The Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr Umar Abba
Muhammed has approved that the sum of N147.7 million recovered from suspected treasury looters be returned to the Kwara state government, in our humble efforts to sanitize the system, we try to investigate all Crimes committed in the society and bring the culprit to book.
“We make sure that stolen assets are returned to lawful owners, we are calling on the Kwara state Government to utilise this money very well so that the State and the EFCC would not be blamed for mismanagement.
“We are using this opportunity to tell you that the
commission will recover more money for both the state government and individuals who are cheated in one way or the other.”
Receiving the cheques, Commissioner for Finance
Olasumbo Florence Oyeyemi, appreciated the EFCC for the recovery promised to use the money for the development of the State.
She said; “I will like to appreciate the EFCC for your efforts so far, the state government had earlier received one hundred and eleven million naira and two hundred and sixty three million naira at two different occasions, I want to assure the zonal head and other management staff of the EFCC that we will do our to utilise the money very well.”

Former member of the House of Representatives Hon Mashood Mustapha has urged Nigerians in Ghana and their host to amicably resolve their lingering trade row.
Hon Mustapha, ex-chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) told reporters in
Ilorin, Kwara state capital.
Mustapha who is also Oluomo of Yorubaland in Ghana said Nigeria and Ghana have long time history of trade interests and various common political and cultural heritages dated back to sixties which needed to be sustained.
He recalled that the immediate past President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama is related to Offa community in Kwara state, Nigeria, adding that most Nigerians have seen Ghana as their second home and vice versa, hence the need for the citizens of the two countries to be each other’s brothers’ keeper.
Mustapha commended the maturity demonstrated by the two countries in handling the disputes, an action he noted has prevented the crisis from escalating to the level witnessed in South Africa during the period of xenophobic attack where Nigerians and some other foreign nationals were senselessly killed and their properties destroyed.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for
sending a powerful delegation to Ghana led by the
Speaker, House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila to find a permanent and lasting peace among the two nation’s over the trade disputes and further deepening their diplomatic relationship.
He called for greater trade ties that would guide against a repeat of the present perceived harsh trade crackdown between the two countries.
The Olu-Omo who is a stalwart of the ruling All
Progressives Congress (APC) said that the COVID-19
pandemic ravaging the world calls for caution among all neighboring countries, particularly Africa as it has to do with their trade activities so as not to further compound the economic challenges presently ravaging the entire world.
Mustapha praised the maturity so far displayed by
Nigerians in Ghana, most especially the traders,
imploring them to continue to demonstrate the peaceful nature which Nigerians are known for, at home and in the diaspora.
He urged the Oba of Yoruba Community in Ghana, Oba Hamzat Peregrimo Brimah to urgently organize a stakeholders meeting among the concerned citizens and the various traders associations with the government of Ghana with a view to finding a lasting solution to the impasse.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has
announced four deaths and 216 fresh cases of COVID-19, taking the total infections in the country to 54, 463.
The NCDC made this known on its official twitter handle on Wednesday.
The health agency said that a multi-sectoral national
Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), activated at Level 3 had continued to coordinate the national response activities across the country.
It disclosed that the new infections were recorded in 15 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The NCDC stated that of the 216 new cases, Plateau had the highest number with 59, followed by Rivers, Abia, and Lagos which had 27, 22, and 20 respectively.
Others were Oyo – 18, Enugu – 17, Kaduna – 11, FCT – 11, Ogun – 10, Ebonyi – four, Osun – four, Ekiti – four, Delta – three, Edo – three, Akwa Ibom – two, and Bauchi – one.
The health agency said that this brought the total number of infections in the country since its first index case in February, 2020 to 54,463.

It noted that those who had lost the their lives to the virus in country increased by four, raising the death toll of infections to 1,027.
The health agency also said that the number of recoveries in the country increased to 42,439 after 429 more patients were successfully treated and discharged from various isolation centres in the country.
It added that as at Monday, Nigeria had a total of 10,997, recoveries.
NCDC stated that this represented 20.19 per cent of the
total confirmed cases with 77.92 per cent recoveries and
1.88 per cent deaths recorded.
Meanwhile, the health agency noted that the success of
the public health response to COVID-19 was not
dependent only on the efforts at the national level.
It said it was also dependent on the actions of various
communities and individuals to adapt the messages and
solutions to their local context.
“One good thing from Nigeria’s polio experience is a well
developed vaccine delivery mechanism.
“What we now need to do is ensure we have the right data
on immunity levels of our population to guide decision
making around prioritisation within our context,” it said.

The Senate said it is considering a bill against all forms of cyber crimes.
The bill is to fortify the nation’s cyber space from global attacks by hackers.
The Chairman Senate Committee on Information
Communication Technology (ICT) Yakubu Oseni disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday after he led members of his committee on a tour of a privately owned cyberdome facility.
The lawmaker stated the parliament is worried by the rising phenomenon of cyber attacks and criminalities across the world, stressing the bill is designed to further strengthen the fight against cyber crime and protect the country’s cyber space from various attacks by cyber criminals.
“Cyber attacks is a world activity and not peculiar to Nigeria alone. Unfortunately, our youths are also engaged in cyber crimes and that is very unfortunate and alarming but the Senate and indeed, the National Assembly is not sleeping
over the matter. There is a bill in the works to actually strengthen the fight against cyber crime.
“We are calling on the public to make relevant contribution so that by the time it comes to public hearing. We (legislators) and indeed, the whole of Nigerians are worried about this phenomenon and we hope everybody will key in as it is a fight for everyone. We hope people will come and
make relevant contributions to the bill.”
Asked how soon the bill will be presented, the lawmaker said: “I can tell you that it is not an executive bill, it is a
private bill.
“To tell you how concerned we are, there will be a
conference coming up in October on Cyber security which is going to be organised by the legislature and we hope the public and people of interest will come in and make presentation.
“We may think that we are not being attacked like the other nations and that is because they don’t know that we are really coming up very well in terms of ICT, hence, we should be battle ready by the time they eventually come. When they do, they will see the likes of CyberDome already providing
defensive mechanism for our cyber space.”
He commended the management of CyberDome for leading the pack in providing the much needed security back up and protection of the country’s cyber space.
Addressing the visiting lawmakers, the Managing Director of CyberDome Nigeria, Chioma Iwuagwu, said the firm has capacity to protect critical infrastructure across Nigeria, especially at the national level.
“CyberDome is conceived as a world class multi secret service provider. We provide bespoke cyber security operations such as critical infrastructure analysis that we are monitoring among other solutions cross all industry verticals.
“Basically what we do is to ensure that our security strategy are tailored to align with the business goal of the organization.
“And again we must have seen that with the COVID 19 there has been a lot of activities within the cyberspace which actually has made it recognized and the cyber criminals actually are not resting on their oars.
“So what we do here is to try to be ahead of them such that we are able to prevent, detect and respond to cyber security challenges.
“And as we know we are all digital citizens right now because we use our phones , we are always on the internet.
So there is need for us to ensure that we are adequately protected. Like I will always say the first line of defence is vigilance.”

    At least 20 Nigerian soldiers have been killed and several others remain missing after two separate attacks by Boko Haram’s Islamic State-backed faction, military sources have told SaharaReporters. Sources said the fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province in trucks fitted with machine guns overran a military position in Magumeri late on Tuesday, killing about 10 soldiers. “We lost 10 soldiers in the ambush, five were wounded and several are missing, their fate still unknown,” a military officer told SaharaReporters.
The officer said the terrorists burnt three vehicles at the base including an armoured tank and an excavator. At Garin Giwa Village in Kukawa Local Government Area of the state, sources said a notorious jihadist known as Umar Lene on Wednesday led two other Boko Haram commanders
to attack Nigerian troops stationed in the town, killing about 10 of them.
Two guntrucks were reportedly taken from the troops, who were on a routine patrol when their convoy came under attack.
In the past months, soldiers have been targeted by the insurgents, who lay ambush on their path.
The Boko Haram insurgency in Northern Nigeria has caused over 30,000 deaths and displaced millions of individuals mainly in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states.
