Following the viral claim that Kogi state Governor Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello issued a strong warning to the leader of the Islamic sects Abubakar Shakau, the Governor through the Chief press secretary Mr Onogwu galaticus has come out publicly to debunk the rumour.
The Kogi state Governor didn’t not issue any statement to president Buhari and Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shakau, it is purely rumour of imagination, he said.
At the moment, we are tirelessly working to bring the dividends of Democracy to the good people of kogi state, by providing jobs, infrastructures and prevent our borders from external frowns of fortune. he stressed.
He however concluded that, with the current level of preparedness and determination on the path of the federal government, insecurities will be history in less than no time.

Court issues arrest warrant for ex-Customs boss, Dikko

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday issued a bench warrant for the arrest of former Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Abdullahi Dikko.
Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu issued the warrant over Mr Dikko’s sustained failure to attend court to answer to a charge of fraud brought against him and two others by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Dikko’s lawyer, Solomon Akuma, on the last adjourned date, promised to ensure his client’s presence in court.
Mr Akuma, however, presented a medical report on Monday, claiming Dikko was critically ill and hospitalised in London.
Justice Ojukwu noted that Dikko’s address, as shown on the medical report – 6, Amhed Musa Crescent Jabi, Abuja – did not support his lawyer’s claim that he was admitted in a London hospital.
The judge said that if Dikko was actually hospitalised in London, the prosecution should suspend effecting the arrest warrant, but if found to be otherwise, the prosecution should arrest Dikko and produce him in court on March 16, 2020, the next adjourned date for arraignment.
ICPC alleges in the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/21/2019
that Dikko and others induced the Managing Director of Cambial Limited, Yemi Obadeyi, to pay N1.1 billion (N1,100, 952,380.96) into the account of Capital Law Office as a refundable ‘completion security deposit’ for the purchase of 120 units of duplexes as residential accommodation for officers of the Nigeria Customs Service.
Others named in the charge as defendants are a former Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Finance, Administration and Technical Services, Garba Makarfi; and Umar Hussaini, a lawyer and owner of Capital
Law firm.
ICPC alleges that Hussaini distributed the money into various other bank accounts and was rewarded with the sum of $3 million.

Planned Protest Against Service Chiefs Aimed At Embarrassing Buhari – Presidency

The Presidency has accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of planning a protest for the removal of service chiefs over poor security on the country.

According to the Presidency, the protest is an effort is to embarrass President Muhammadu Buhari.
“The Presidency wishes to caution a section of the political class against misleading the public and inciting protests against the heads of military institutions.
“This has become necessary in view of received reports that about two thousand men and women have been hired to demonstrate against Nigeria’s service chiefs on Monday,” the statement which is signed by the senior special adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu said.
Shehu in the statement added that “this imminent gathering is the latest in a series of demonstrations orchestrated by the opposition to embarrass the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.”
He added that PDP had earlier commenced a march from one embassy to the other in protest against the Buhari administration and the nation’s highest court of justice, the Supreme Court.
“They are keen to give the impression that Nigerians are in support of them as they take to the streets, and they will go to any length to promote this false narrative.”
Speaking concerning the recent incident in Maiduguri, Borno State, where a group of people were recorded booing President Buhari, Shehu said this is a part of PDP’s ‘elaborate scheme.’
“It is misleading, as some analysts have tried to do, to read this as the verdict against President Buhari, who emerged winner with 94 percent of the votes cast in the Presidential election in the state in February last year.”
Shehu, therefore, stressed that the people in the video were hired few all just to embarrass the President.

Panic as gunmen attack travellers near Kaduna train station.

There was confusion on Sunday night when suspected gunmen attacked travellers along Airport Link Road near Rigasa railway station in Kaduna State. The incident according to eye witnessed created panic among passengers who alighted from the train around 8:30 pm.

An eye witness at the motor park who simply identified himself as Isah told Daily Trust that they heard gun shots while passengers were on their way to their destinations. “Yes, it’s true that gunmen attacked travellers along Airport Link road again after they alighted from the train. There was a convoy that was almost caught in the fire which we suspected it to be a minister ‘s convoy but the convoy made an emergency u-turn and go through Rigasa town,” he said.

It was not clear which of the minister’s convoy was almost attacked because the incident happened at night.
But Isa said soldiers who were stationed around the railway station went after the attackers.

Contacted the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Muhammad Jalige didn’t answer his call and didn’t reply text sent to him on the issue. ‎It could be recalled that the Sunday attacked on travellers along that route made it the the third time gunmen lay siege on innocent travellers in less than a month.

President Buhari Is Breaking The Law – Falana.

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana on Monday said President Muhammadu Buhari is running afoul of the law in his decision not to terminate the current crop of security Service Chiefs.
Mr Falana, who appeared onSunrise Daily, argued that the laws regulating military officers require the retirement of military officers who have served for 35 years or have reached the age of 60.
He added that a lawsuit would be filed this week in respect of the matter.
In an interview that lasted more than 20 minutes, Mr Falana also said President Buhari “must be prevailed upon” to acknowledge the possibility of “internal sabotage” within the military in the war against insurgency.
Responding to statements from the Presidency cautioning against public protests against the government, Mr Falana said such comments should be “embarrassing” to the President who, before he took the country’s reins, had led public demonstrations.

What Falana Actually Said

“Under the public service rule, under the harmonised rules for military officers in Nigeria and under Section 6 of the armed forces act, which empowers the President to make rules and regulations for the military, there is no provision for extension of tenure (for Service Chiefs) beyond the period stipulated by law. It has been done in the past, but that does not make it right. There is equality before the law, so you can’t extend the service of certain officers while you ask others to go after 35 years of service or the attainment of 60 years of age.
“To the best of my knowledge, a suit will be filed during the week, in respect of this matter.
“The President must be prevailed upon to appreciate that we may also be undergoing what you might describe as internal sabotage (in the fight against insurgency) by many members of the armed forces who simply feel since these are the people who can stop insurgency or terrorism, let them go ahead. Because the Chief of Army Staff himself has had an occasion to accuse members of the armed forces of not doing enough.
“The Service Chiefs are retiring officers who have served for 35 years or have reached the age of 60 – it is their fault not to appeal to the President for them to go or to resign.

On Caution Against Public Protests

“Is the Nigerian state telling us that a protest by 2,000 people cannot be managed? What on earth is going on? We have to recognise the right of Nigerians to protest for or against the government. And just last week in Abuja sponsored agents of the government staged a protest asking the government to expel Amnesty International from Nigeria. Even against me, the government had sponsored some elements to demonstrate in Abuja. I have evidence. If the government can mobilise support and get its agents to demonstrate in favour of its own policies; Nigerians must also be given the opportunity to demonstrate against policies of the government considered inimical to their interest.
“I want to believe that some of these statements oozing out of the Presidency are meant to embarrass the government, particularly President Muhammadu Buhari. Because the case of ANPP and Inspector General of Police decided by the Court of Appeal in December 2007 on the rights of Nigerians to demonstrate without police permit, without the fiat of the government, was handled for the former leaders of the ANPP, who are now in the APC, by my humble self, from the High Court to the Court of Appeal; and that is the law today.
“Following that judgement, the National Assembly in 2015 amended the Public Order Act by imposing a duty on the police to provide security for Nigerians who wish to demonstrate. That is the law today.
“Whenever I have had cause to lead a demonstration or participate in one, we have always written to the police for protection, not for permit. And I must confess, so far, I have not had any case where we have been told not to demonstrate. The only time, I think, was last year when Professor Soyinka and I were supposed to address a meeting and the police said it won’t take place; I said no, call the authorities, this is the right we have fought for and won. And in fairness to them, we were allowed to have the program.
“What is particularly embarrassing is that on the 20th of November 2014, the Presidential Candidate of the APC, General Muhammadu Buhari, now President Muhammadu Buhari, the then APC Chairman, Chief John Oyegun, two current Ministers, Dr. Sylvester Onu and Rotimi Amaechi, led others to demonstrate in Abuja against insecurity in the country, and they were more than 2,000. Heavens did not fall and heavens will not fall this time around.”

Leah Sharibu: B/Haram rejected ransom — Govt sources.

The Boko Haram terrorist group rejected the ransom offered by the Federal Government to secure the release of Leah Sharibu, sources at the Presidency told Daily Trust yesterday.

Sharibu, a schoolgirl, is the only Dapchi schoolgirl still held hostage out of the 110 kidnapped by the Boko Haram terrorist group from the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, in 2018. The sources that the money was ready to be delivered when the terrorists, who had made the request for a specific amount totalling millions of Naira in hard currency, changed their minds and rejected any ransom.

They said the Federal Government reached an agreement after a long communication procedure as the channels of communication between top security agents of the government, third parties and the terrorists at times took more than a month to complete one line of messages back and forth.
One of the sources said: “while the Federal Government remains strongly committed to securing the release of Leah and all other identified and unidentified abductees, by any means necessary, the terrorists chose much earlier after Leah’s abduction to use her to fan religious embers and cause devastating division in the country. And that was why the terrorists rejected the ransom government security agencies prepared to pay for Leah’s release.”
The source said top presidential officials still encouraged federal government officials to remain actively engaged with the channels of communication with the negotiators until a positive resolution is secured “because the president has set a firm target and resolve to ensure the freedom of Leah and others by any means necessary.” Meanwhile, a security expert, Salihu Bakhari, yesterday in a chat with Daily Trust, said the Federal Government must renegotiate with the terrorists because Leah Sharibu’s abductors “know that the attention of the world is on the girl. “The girl is an expensive captive and her case is complicated considering the fact that she was not released alongside other girls abducted from Dapchi. “The world will accuse the Federal Government of not doing the right thing if the girl remains in captivity. “The terrorists know her worth and will use it to their maximum advantage. They know government is involved in the negotiation; she is therefore not an ordinary captive. “However, one thing is certain: they will not kill her, but they will also not release her easily.
“They have provided a proof of life and most importantly, she is in the hands of ISWAP, not Shekau and therefore, elaborate negotiation will work out. They are not using her as highly priced captive only, but also a human shield. I suggest that government should not back out from the process. They should negotiate more not necessarily by giving more money, but by using other available options.” Leah’s father, Sharibu Nathan, yesterday told Daily Trust that he was not aware that the insurgents rejected any ransom to release his daughter. He also noted that he had not heard anything about the girl.
