Kissing in church during wedding is a sin ― Nigerian Bishop Speaks

Rt Rev. (Dr) Emmanuel Oko-Jaja, the Bishop of Niger Delta
West Diocese, has said allowing couples to kiss in the
church during their wedding service is unscriptural, unholy.
.
He said this while delivering a sermon at St Mark’s
Anglican Church, Biogbolo, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, adding
that such practice promotes immorality and corrupt the
mind of teenagers that are in church to witness the
practice. .
He explained that the act of letting the groom kiss the
bride in the full glare of both the young and old persons
gathered in the church to witness what is expected to be
holy solemnisation of a wedding between a man and
woman emanated from the teachings of false prophets. .
.
“The practice where couples are allowed to kiss in the
church during wedding service is unscriptural. I wish to
direct clergymen and church workers in this Diocese to
guard against such unholy conducts. .
According to the scriptures, the church is not supposed to
serve as a place meant to promote immorality but
encourage people to uphold and practice Christian virtues
with a view to winning souls for Christ,” he added.

BREAKING: Iran apologises for ‘mistakenly’ shooting down Ukrainian plane

Iran has apologised its military “unintentionally” shot down a Ukrainian jetliner, killing all 176 on board.
The statement on Saturday morning blames “human error” for the incident, adding that the military mistook Flight 752 for a “hostile target”.
Press TV also quoted Iran’s General Staff of the Armed Forces as saying that the plane had flown close to a “sensitive military site”.
The military said it was at its “highest level of readiness” amid the heightened tensions with the United States.
“In such a condition, because of human error and in a unintentional way, the flight was hit,” the military said.
It apologised and said it would upgrade its systems to prevent future tragedies.
In a statement posted on social media, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani wrote that the country “deeply regrets this
disastrous mistake”.
“My thoughts and prayers go to all the mourning families. I
offer my sincerest condolences,” he said, adding that
“investigations continue to identify and prosecute this great
tragedy and unforgivable mistake”.
Iran had denied for several days that a missile downed the
aircraft.
But then the US and Canada, citing intelligence, said they
believe Iran shot down the aircraft.
On Friday, Ali Abedzadeh, head of Iran’s civil aviation
authority, said it was impossible due to close coordination
between Iran’s air defence and the civil aviation
department.
“What is obvious for us, and what we can say with certainty, is that no missile hit the plane,” Abedzadeh told reporters in Tehran.
The jetliner, a Boeing 737 operated by Ukraine International Airlines, went down on the outskirts of Tehran during takeoff just hours after Iran launched a barrage of missiles at US forces in Iraq.
In a social media post, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that “human error at time of crisis caused by US adventurism led to the disaster”.
“Our profound regrets, apologies and condolences to our people, to the families of all victims and to other affected nations.”
The plane, en route to the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, was carrying 167 passengers and nine crew members from several countries, including 82 Iranians, 57 Canadians and
11 Ukrainians, when it was shot down.
“This is the right step for the Iranian government to admit responsibility and it gives people a step toward closure with
this admission,” said Payman Parseyan, a prominent Iranian- Canadian in western Canada who lost a number of friends in the crash.
“I think the investigation would have disclosed it whether
they admitted it or not. This will give them an opportunity to
save face,” he told AP news agency.

US Kills Top Iran Commander Qasem Soleimani In Baghdad Raid.

Top Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani was killed Friday in a US strike on Baghdad’s international airport, prompting Tehran to vow “revenge”, dramatically upping the stakes in bitter tensions between Tehran and Washington.
The Pentagon said US President Donald Trump ordered Soleimani’s “killing”, after a pro-Iran mob this week laid siege to the US embassy.
Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei swiftly vowed to take “severe revenge” for Soleimani’s death, the biggest escalation yet in a feared proxy war between Iran and the US on Iraqi soil.
As the US embassy urged all American citizens to leave Iraq “immediately”, Trump tweeted out a picture of the US flag without any explanation.
Early Friday, a volley of missiles hit Baghdad’s international airport, striking a convoy belonging to the Hashed al-Shaabi, an Iraqi paramilitary force with close ties to Iran.
Just a few hours later, the Revolutionary Guard Corps announced Soleimani “was martyred in an attack by America on Baghdad airport this morning.”
The Hashed confirmed both Soleimani and its deputy chief Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were killed in what it said was a “US strike that targeted their car on the Baghdad International Airport road.”
The Hashed is a network of mostly-Shiite armed units, many of whom have close ties to Tehran but which have been officially incorporated into Iraq’s state security forces. ‘Major decapitation strike’
Muhandis was the Hashed’s deputy chief, but was widely recognised as the real shot-caller within the group.
Soleimani headed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force and also served as Iran’s pointman on Iraq, visiting the country in times of turmoil.
Both were sanctioned by the United States.
The Pentagon said Soleimani had been “actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region.”
It said it took “decisive defensive action to protect US personnel abroad by killing Qasem Soleimani,” but did not specify how.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif slammed the US strike as “extremely dangerous and a foolish escalation,” as Khamenei declared three days of mourning.
The Iraqi prime minister said the strike was a “flagrant violation” of a security accord with the US, warning it will “spark a devastating war in Iraq.”
And a paramilitary group urged its fighters to be on high alert.
“All resistance fighters must be ready, as an upcoming conquest and a great victory await us,” said Qais al-Khazali, the head of Asaib Ahl al-Haq, in a handwritten note seen by AFP.
Militiaman-turned-cleric Moqtada Sadr also reactivated his Mahdi Army, nearly a decade after dissolving the notoriously anti-American force.
But there were daring celebrations in Tahrir Square, the epicentre of a three-month protest movement that has slammed the Iraqi government as corrupt and beholden to Tehran.
“Oh Qasem Soleimani, this is a divine victory,” demonstrators chanted as some danced in the streets.
Trump ‘changed the rules’ –
Analysts said the strike would be a gamechanger in the tensions between Iran and the US.
“Trump changed the rules -— he wanted (Soleimani)
eliminated,” said Ramzy Mardini, a researcher at the US Institute of Peace.
Soleimani “didn’t appreciate that his actions of threatening another hostage crisis at the (US) embassy changed the way things were going to be done,” Mardini said.
Phillip Smyth, a US-based specialist in Shiite armed groups, described the strike as “the most major decapitation strike that the US has ever pulled off.”
He told AFP it would have “bigger” ramifications than the 2011 US operation that killed Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden and the 2019 American raid that killed Islamic State group Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. “There is no comparison,” Smyth added.
But others said it remains unclear how Iran could respond to the blow.
“A lot of the focus is on what is the price that the US is gonna pay and how Iran will retaliate against the US,” said Fanar Haddad of the Singapore University’s Middle East Institute.
The developments come after an unprecedented attack on the US mission in Baghdad.
A mob of Hashed supporters surrounded the US embassy on Tuesday angered by American air strikes that killed 25 fighters from the network’s hardline Kataeb Hezbollah faction, which is backed by Iran.
The US had acted in response to a rocket attack days earlier that had killed an American contractor working in Iraq.
Trump had blamed Iran for a spate of rocket attacks targeting US forces as well as the siege at the embassy, saying: “They will pay a very BIG PRICE! This is not a Warning, it is a Threat.”
US lawmakers however were not told in advance of Friday’s attack, House Foreign Affairs Committee chairman Eliot Engel
said in a statement.
Ties between the US and Iran have deteriorated since
Washington pulled out of the landmark nuclear deal with Tehran in 2018.
It then reimposed crippling sanctions on Iran, aiming to choke off its oil exports. Oil prices soared following Friday’s attack, with Brent surging 4.4 percent to $69.16 and WTI jumping 4.3 percent to 63.84.
The attack threatens to destabilise Iraq, which has close political and military ties with both Tehran and Washington.
The United States led the 2003 invasion against then-dictator Saddam Hussein and has worked closely with Iraqi officials since.
But its influence has waned compared with that of Tehran, which has carefully crafted personal ties with Iraqi politicians and armed factions, even during Saddam’s reign.

I didn’t sponsor Hate Speech Bill, Lai Mohammed cries out

Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has said that he was not the sponsor of the Hate Speech Bill before National Assembly. He dismissed the report attributed to Senator Francis Fadahunsi representing Osun East that he was behind the Bill, saying it was a “bigger example” of fake news.

The Senator had alleged, in an interview, that the Minister was the sponsor of the Bill but only used Senator Sabi Abdullahi as a front.

“Senator Sabi Abdullahi only front for the bill, it actually originated from the Executive, specifically, Lai Muhammed and the sole motive is just to box the media into a corner, where it would no longer have the vibrancy to question those in public offices,” the Senator was reported as saying.

But in a chat with newsmen in Lagos, Lai Mohammed dismissed the allegation, saying: “This is a bigger example of fake news. I can say categorically that I am not the sponsor of Hate Speech Bill in the National Assembly.” He however, stressed that he is committed to sanitizing the social media, saying the greatest challenge to the country today was fake news.

Former President of the United States, Barack Obama, has listed songs by Burna Boy and Remy in his 2019 favorite music playlist.
The former president listed Anybody by Burna Boy and Iron Man by Rema in his favorite music alongside 33 others.
Obama shared the playlist on Twitter via his handle, @BarakObama.
From hip-hop to country to The Boss, here are my songs of the year. If you’re looking for something to keep you company on a long drive or help you turn up a workout, I hope there’s a track or two in here that does the trick.” He tweeted.
This is the second time Obama will list Rema’s song in his playlist. In July, he listed Iron Man by Rema in his summer playlist.
This is the first time Burna Boy who is a Grammy award nominee will feature in that playlist. Interesting, Angélique Kidjo who is competing for the same Grammy award as Burna Boy is also in the playlist.

Kwara Govt takes over land used by Saraki family in Ilorin

Dr Bukola Saraki

The Kwara State Government has taken over a piece
of land being used by the Saraki Family in Ilorin.
A release by the Chief Press Secretary to Kwara
Governor, Rafiu Ajakaiye said on Friday that a new
secretariat would be built on the land.
Ajakaiye said the land was originally meant for
Government Secretariat and parking space of the Civil
Service Clinic, but was unlawfully allocated to a
private firm, Asa Investments Limited, without any
record of payment to the state government.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that part
of the land, situated beside the Civil Service Clinic, is
also right in front of late Dr Olusola Saraki’s
residence.
NAN also reports that the late Saraki built a house
and named it ‘Ile Arugbo’ (elderly peoples’ home).
According to the statement, no certificate of
occupancy was issued in favour of the firm.
The statement explained that the government has
now made provisions for the secretariat in the 2020
budget, although its construction will spill over to
2021.
“Hundreds of civil servants still operate from rented
apartments at a huge cost to the government.
“The new secretariat, once completed in 2021, will
definitely go a long way to end this unhealthy trend
as well as provide a more conducive and decent
working environment for government workers,” the
statement added.
Ajakaiye added that Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq
has signed a constitutional instrument withdrawing
the allocation of plots of land 1, 3 and 5 to the firm.
He said that the said land used by Saraki family was
unlawfully appropriated contrary to the purpose for
which it was meant.
The spokesman added that the governor’s decision
followed a resolution of the State House of Assembly
urging him to reclaim the land because it was
arbitrarily taken over in the 1990s without any
evidence of payment by the company, even though
the land was meant for public use.
The governor noted in the revocation order that the
land was originally meant for the construction of
another phase of the Kwara State Civil Service
Secretariat and a parking space for both the civil
service clinic and the secretariat.
The revocation order according to NAN read: “In
exercise of the powers conferred by Section 5 of the
Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as
amended) 1999 and Section 1 and 28 of the Land
Use Act Cap. L.5 of 2004 and all other powers
enabling me in that behalf, I, Mallam AbdulRahman
AbdulRazaq, Governor of Kwara State of Nigeria, give
the following notice:
“The Notice may be cited as the Land Use
(Revocation of Right of Occupancy and withdrawal of
allocation) Notice, 2019.
“Allocation of plots of land 1, 3 and 5 TPS/MISC 129
to Asa Investment (Nig) Ltd. which is meant for the
Kwara State Secretariat.
“The land, specifically and more described in survey
No. KwSH 927 and Land/G1071 situated and lying
beside Civil Service Clinic on Ilofa Road Ilorin, Kwara
State, is hereby revoked and withdrawn for overriding
public interest for use of the purpose it is originally
meant for:
“The construction of Kwara State Secretariat; parking
space for civil service clinic and the Kwara State
Secretariat and annex to the Civil Service when
upgraded to a hospital.
“That the plots allocated are hereby declared void.
Notice is therefore given to you, Asa Investments
Nigeria Limited, that the plots of land 1, 3 and 5 TPS/
MISC 129 allocated to you and any title on the land
whatsoever are hereby revoked and the allocation is
withdrawn for overriding public interest,” it read in
part.
