National Association of Nigerian Students NANS

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS ) has condemned the murder of a student of University of Maiduguri, Ropvil Daciya Dalep by Boko Haram insurgents.
Dalep was abducted on his way back to school on 9th January, 2019 alongside others in the vehicle to Maiduguri from Jos. A statement signed by the National President, Comrade Danielson Akpan said after days in the net of the dreaded Boko Haram group, Dalep a bonafide member of NANS was brutally killed on the 22nd January, 2020 in a video that has gone viral on the social media space.
“Others are still held captive and suffering in the hands of their abductors.
On a daily basis, Nigerians are kidnapped and killed by Boko Haram and other unknown armed groups,” he noted.
He said communities in the North East, especially in
Adamawa and Borno States have come under heavy
attack with untold casualties and tales of woe that has been either not reported or under reported by the media.
“At the moment, there is no safe place in Nigeria as
abduction is carried out close to the seat of power, Abuja and its environs. Travellers and commuters are regularly attacked, kidnapped and killed around Kogi, Kaduna and Jos routes,” he said. He explained that the impact of the violent attacks has been devastating on these communities and Nigerian students who now live in perpetual fear and could no longer attend school in these areas due to fear of killings and kidnaping as their campuses come under several attacks and the highways they commute from their various homes to school unsafe.
“We call on President Muhammadu Buhari, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces to immediately sack the service chiefs as they have lost touch with the reality,” he said

Kissing in church during wedding is a sin ― Nigerian Bishop Speaks

Rt Rev. (Dr) Emmanuel Oko-Jaja, the Bishop of Niger Delta
West Diocese, has said allowing couples to kiss in the
church during their wedding service is unscriptural, unholy.
.
He said this while delivering a sermon at St Mark’s
Anglican Church, Biogbolo, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, adding
that such practice promotes immorality and corrupt the
mind of teenagers that are in church to witness the
practice. .
He explained that the act of letting the groom kiss the
bride in the full glare of both the young and old persons
gathered in the church to witness what is expected to be
holy solemnisation of a wedding between a man and
woman emanated from the teachings of false prophets. .
.
“The practice where couples are allowed to kiss in the
church during wedding service is unscriptural. I wish to
direct clergymen and church workers in this Diocese to
guard against such unholy conducts. .
According to the scriptures, the church is not supposed to
serve as a place meant to promote immorality but
encourage people to uphold and practice Christian virtues
with a view to winning souls for Christ,” he added.

BREAKING: Iran apologises for ‘mistakenly’ shooting down Ukrainian plane

Iran has apologised its military “unintentionally” shot down a Ukrainian jetliner, killing all 176 on board.
The statement on Saturday morning blames “human error” for the incident, adding that the military mistook Flight 752 for a “hostile target”.
Press TV also quoted Iran’s General Staff of the Armed Forces as saying that the plane had flown close to a “sensitive military site”.
The military said it was at its “highest level of readiness” amid the heightened tensions with the United States.
“In such a condition, because of human error and in a unintentional way, the flight was hit,” the military said.
It apologised and said it would upgrade its systems to prevent future tragedies.
In a statement posted on social media, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani wrote that the country “deeply regrets this
disastrous mistake”.
“My thoughts and prayers go to all the mourning families. I
offer my sincerest condolences,” he said, adding that
“investigations continue to identify and prosecute this great
tragedy and unforgivable mistake”.
Iran had denied for several days that a missile downed the
aircraft.
But then the US and Canada, citing intelligence, said they
believe Iran shot down the aircraft.
On Friday, Ali Abedzadeh, head of Iran’s civil aviation
authority, said it was impossible due to close coordination
between Iran’s air defence and the civil aviation
department.
“What is obvious for us, and what we can say with certainty, is that no missile hit the plane,” Abedzadeh told reporters in Tehran.
The jetliner, a Boeing 737 operated by Ukraine International Airlines, went down on the outskirts of Tehran during takeoff just hours after Iran launched a barrage of missiles at US forces in Iraq.
In a social media post, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that “human error at time of crisis caused by US adventurism led to the disaster”.
“Our profound regrets, apologies and condolences to our people, to the families of all victims and to other affected nations.”
The plane, en route to the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, was carrying 167 passengers and nine crew members from several countries, including 82 Iranians, 57 Canadians and
11 Ukrainians, when it was shot down.
“This is the right step for the Iranian government to admit responsibility and it gives people a step toward closure with
this admission,” said Payman Parseyan, a prominent Iranian- Canadian in western Canada who lost a number of friends in the crash.
“I think the investigation would have disclosed it whether
they admitted it or not. This will give them an opportunity to
save face,” he told AP news agency.
